WCA COVID-19 STATEMENT
We are committed to keeping our staff, volunteers, and clients informed of any changes to programs or other conditions to ensure the safety of everyone involved amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to continue our work under the current circumstances, we have expanded our virtual platforms, remote-learning and volunteering options. In-person activities are currently limited to essential staff, although we plan to gradually return to in-person activities as this becomes possible. The COVID-19 restrictions currently apply for all in-person activities.

THOUSANDS OF TURTLES PRIVATE TOURS BY SPECIAL REQUEST ONLY DUE TO COVID-19

Meeting Point: Bar Las Brisas, Ostional
 

Price: starting from $250 for up to 4 people, $40 each additional person up to 8 

Join us on an awe-inspiring educational experience to witness thousands of turtles nesting at Ostional. Local guide, community fund donation, taxes and fees are included. Book now and we'll take care of the rest. 

What to wear/bring:
Arrive 15 minutes early. Wear comfortable, dark clothing. Wear closed toed shoes. Long sleeve shirts/pants recommended for those prone to mosquito bites. Bring rain gear (May–November).

What’s included: 
Meet an expert, local tour guide, personal headset, informational leaflet, certificate, reusable bag, sticker, donation to the community fund, taxes and fees.

BLUE SEAS TOURS:
HALF DAY BOAT EXPEDITION

Duration: (7–11 am or 2–6 pm)
 

Meeting Point: Pilos Bar, Playa Garza
 

Price: starting from $70 PAX for up to 10 people

 

Go on a boat expedition with National Geographic explorer and marine biologist Dr. Vanessa Bezy. Have the opportunity to observe sea turtles mating and swimming in the open ocean, as well as other marine life such as dolphins and rays, stop at a shipwreck to snorkel and learn about coral reef ecosystems.


What to wear/bring:
Arrive 15 minutes early. Wear light, comfortable clothing, flip flops or barefoot. Bring reusable water bottle, sun protection, bathing suit, towel.

DIVE DEEPER EXPEDITIONS:

Dive deeper with our immersive 3 day Dive Deeper Expedition at The Ostional National Wildlife Refuge. Head out on a boat excursion to observe sea turtles and marine life in the ocean. Snorkel and learn about coral reef ecosystems. Visit a sea turtle hatchery. Witness the arribadas—a year-round simultaneous sea turtle nesting event. Experience pura vida (pure life) with Costa Rican lunch and dinner. Plus more!

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A 
SEA TURTLE SCIENTIST

Duration: 2 hrs
 

Meeting Point: North Guiones Entrance (Guilded Iguana)
 

Meeting Time: 7–9 AM
 

Price: $20 kids / $30 adults

Learn first-hand what it’s like to be a sea turtle scientist! Meet Dr. Vanessa Bezy, a National Geographic Explorer and sea turtle biologist with ten years of experience working in the area. Then set out for a walk on the beach to look for sea turtles, learn how to identify turtle tracks, and learn first-hand how to collect data from a life-size sea turtle and model nest. 

What to wear/bring:


light, comfortable clothing, flip flops or barefoot, reusable water bottle, sun protection

all materials and supplies, model sea turtle and nest, gloves, measuring tape, tagging pliers, flipper tag, data sheet, pencil

NATURE TOURS

Duration: 2 hrs
 

Meeting Point: Tennis Court at Playa Pelada
 

Meeting Time: 7–9 AM
 

Price: $20 kids / $30 adults

Explore local trails, learn all about the tropical dry forest ecosystem, find and identify creatures in the jungle. Meet Dr. Vanessa Bezy, a National Geographic Explorer and wildlife conservationist with over ten years of experience working in the area. Take a walk through the jungle along local trails. Learn about our camera trap study and how you can contribute scientific data by submitting observations on the iNaturalist app. Wildlife Photographer Carlos Clemente will document the entire experience and share photos with you.

light, comfortable clothing, hiking shoes or sandals, reusable water bottle, sun protection

SUP MANGROVE TOURS

Duration: 2.5 hrs
 

Meeting Point: Rio Nosara Rivermouth
 

Meeting Time: based on high tide

Take a Stand-Up Paddle tour through the mangrove and witness a diversity of birds and other mangrove creatures. Take a break on a secluded beach for a snack before letting the tide carry you back.

WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY
TOURS

Duration: 2 hrs

Price: $40 adults (age 16+)

Explore the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge, bring back incredible memories and a new skill set. Observe a diversity of birds, reptiles and mammals in their natural habitat while learning how to properly capture them with your camera. According to the season we will show you around rivers, alongside deserted beaches and the unique tropical dry forest that Guanacaste has to offer.
